UKCRN has launched its first online GCP course.

The course aims to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive guide to the principles of ICH GoodClinical Practice (GCP), and the EU Directive for Clinical Trials and it will help participants understand the historical development of Good Clinical Practice and its impact on clinical research.

The course is split into two modules and each is stand-alone. The course can be completed in any order and learning material is underpinned by using scenarios from the workplace. Participants are encouraged to consider how the principles could be applied to their own work situation with quizzes and challenges used to identify knowledge gaps. Participants can complete the course at their own pace within three months of registering.

For more information, and to register on the course, visit the UKCRN website at http://www.ukcrn.org.uk/index/training/courses/gcp_online.html

This new website has been developed from an idea by the YCRN Research User Group, which is a group of service users and health care professionals who have been meeting regularly to consider ways that patients, carers and members of the public can become involved in influencing clinical research.

The website is supported by the Yorkshire Cancer Research Network and staff involved in the project are happy for you to contact them regarding any ideas, suggestions or information you might want about this new exciting development.

Can NCRN Staff Speed Up the Reporting and Publication of the TACT Trial

A poster displayed at the NCRI Conference in Birmingham (2nd - 5th Oct) explains how
the TACT Trials Unit may be able to speed up the time to analysis it can get "real time"
data, reporting events as they happen, as an adjunct to the current system which captures
data annually. The very nature of the current method of annual reporting means that events
may not be reported to the Trials Office for up to 11 months after occurrence, assuming that
all forms are completed promptly at annual intervals. A mapping exercise was conducted to
identify the number of overdue follow up forms. Follow up is deemed to be overdue if no follow
up form is received for 15 months or more in the Trials Office. Currently 20% of forms are
overdue across all centres (although the range is from 90% to 0% outstanding). The Trials Unit
were able to identify by Centre and by Network the percentage rate and actual number of
overdue forms. The data relating to Networks is shown on the poster in tabular form. The aim
of this exercise was not to name and shame, or to apportion blame, but simply to highlight
where the delays and blockages are occurring.

*****In the analysis the Yorkshire Cancer Research Network was amongst the top for the quality and timeliness of it's data returns. There is a special mention for both Huddersfield and St James's Hopsitals for a 100% data returns*****

NEEDED - Nursing Members for the National Cancer Research Institute Clinical Studies Group

The 21 National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Clinical Studies Groups have a remit to
